internet radio w/ fb2k

one of my room mates is an avid winamp user, mainly for its integrated "internet radio" services.  i think i could get him interested in foobar2000, but he really likes his internet radio, and i know little to nothing about it.  is there a standalone program he could use, or maybe a component to foobar that would give him high quality (at least comperable to winamp's) internet radio so he could leave winamp and start using foobar??

It isn't even required to have any third party programs. It is enough that you install foobar, register all supported file extensions, and go to winamp.com or shoutcast.com and click listen next to your favorite radio station.

Oh.. you just use Playlist > Add Location. Then voila, you're sorted.

huh?  what would he put in the add location text block?

also, he has a plugin he uses w/ winamp that allows him to record the radio songs he listens to on winamp.  it automatically detects song changes, and tags the files for him.  what would be an easy way for him to do this w/ fb2k.  i stress the word easy, because he's not a very tech savy individual.  simpler is better.  thanks guys.

There's a modified version that can save streams, look around the forums.
EDIT: here http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=15308

And fb2k is not for beginners(though, we are all once), but you always learn =)

Good luck.

mini mini n00b tutorial:

If you are going to play a radio station in foobar2000 you need the URL. The URL can either be copied & pasted into Playlist > Add location... or it can reside within a playlist (e.g. m3u or pls playlist) which you can play as a file. You can paste the url into a regular textfile with Notepad and save it down as or rename it to someradiostation.m3u and just play this file as any file... Many stations let you download a listen.pls or listen.m3u for playback. Play them. Or open them in Notepad to find the URL and see how it's done... You can put many stations URL's into the same playlist and keep it around... If foobar2000 are registered as default player for *.m3u and *.pls they are automatically played when activated...

Example of URL's:

http://64.236.34.67:80/stream/1019

http://radio.hiof.no/nrk-alltid-klassisk-172.ogg

http://66.28.68.70:8005/

Hi,

I am also  switching from some other players to fb2k, and I have a problem with my favorite webradio. It is an WMA Stream (or RM, but I think I have to use the WMA one with fb2k?), which is played well in MediaPlayer or Winamp.
But when I try to open it with fb2k I get following error: "INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback :
INFO (CORE) : location: "mms://213.254.239.60/swr3$livestream.wma" (0)
ERROR (CORE) : error opening file for playback :
INFO (CORE) : location: "mms://213.254.239.60/swr3$livestream.wma" (0)"

Any suggestions are highly appreciated
Thanks in advance, bunny.

Well, foobar2000 doesn't play this stream. I don't know if foo_wma does streams at all, haven't tested much. I listen mostly to Vorbis or MP3 streams.
[a href="http://www.vuplayer.com/vuplayer.htm]VUPlayer[/url] doesn't play it either.
XMPlay and Screamer Radio plays it fine.
But 20 kbps WMA..... Sorry, but this doesn't sound to good to me...

Thanks for the try, but that is exactly my stand of knowledge
There is also a RM Stream available, any chance to get foo2k streaming that?

There is no foobar2000 component that supports the mms:// protocol as far as I know.
