WAV to FLAC

Now, I'm sure such a topic has existed before, but I couldn't find one, but I'm sure this question has been asked before multiple times.

Anyway, the official FLAC frontend is having issues on my system. Are there any WAV to FLAC converters you could please recommend to me?

Many thanks,

Zvuk

Probably because there's a plethora of free alternatives.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with recommending paid software when that software excels at something and the free alternatives do not really compare very well.

I don't see that's the case here, however.

EDIT: That said, Greynol was quite quick to throw in the freebies, but when the paid software is the first suggestion it makes HA look a very tiny bit like a salesman.

Converting Wave >> FLAC is not limited to a pay version of dBpoweramp.

dBpoweramp Music Converter™ is 'the standard' tool for audio conversions, with 30 million users:

* Free no-obligation, fully functional trial for 21 days.

Perhaps it's just the way the site is designed but everything I looked at had a purchase button next to it, and when I looked for "free version" it was just a trial that expired after 21 days. So either:

1) the website is not clear, or 2) you can get it for free but only for 21 days

Have I missed something?

Last I knew, you could get the stripped-down version for free as long as you didn't encode mp3 with it, but that may have changed.

21 day full functionality Reference trial -------- Version Features

Interesting way to design the site. No mention of a free version until you look into the Version Features of the "21 day full functionality Reference trial".

So in answer to my question above, the answer is (1).
Please forgive me for not realising that dBpoweramp has a stripped down free version.

Unless it has just been changed, the availability and features of the free version are quite explicit:

Three distinct dBpoweramp versions:

Free: a functional Ripper and Converter, mp3 encoding missing.

Oops! Good point.  It would be good if the existence of three versions, including a fully free one, were clarified.

CUETools is my choice for that (and other formats) for now, especially since i usually work with disc images. The only thing i don't like about it atm is that AR access is read only, but it has it's own DB it can upload to so meh.

Because Cuetools DB is still almost unknown to many and there is no foobar component that can verify those checksums. I might be a bit paranoid, but i often re-check my albums to see if something got corrupted for whatever reason. I usually use foobar to do so, now i just have to get used to using CT instead.

I had ripped a CD that wasn't in AR database, it was commited to CTDB only. After a month i checked my rip against AR and all 6 entries it had was different from mine. After re-ripping i got the "correct" results but now CTDB has this invalid entry, so my log says "couldn't verify against CTDB 0/1" and then "rip accurate 6/6" on AR. That might be merely cosmetic but it bothers me.

Actually, after re-verifying with cuetools it now says
"[ CTDBID ] Status
        [ebedbabf] (1/8) No match
        [d73f2356] (7/8) Accurately ripped"

so i guess it's fine

There are no different pressings of that CD btw, it's a JP album i imported.
