CD/DVD Drive Accuracy List 2011

AccurateRip collects data from all drives, normally this is only used to verify a disc is accurate, but can be reversed to calculate which drives are the most accurate (as measured by lowest % inaccurate tracks).

This test was previously run in 2009 and 2006, as time goes on more submissions give a greater meaning to the results, only drives with over 4000  submissions and 40 users are used.

Best of the Best are:

Even though I won't change my setup, this kind of information is really appreciated. We should encourage drive vendor to try harder. Thanks a lot !

I am curious, since there is no data to rate the quality of the disks ripped, wouldn't accuracy be just as attributable to quality of the users cd archive, than the particular drives utilized?

In other words, you could say users with the top 10 drives tend to have pristine disks, instead of saying that the drives are more 'accurate'.

With the required number of entries and users its hard to say, but I bet it all comes out in the wash. I have a PX-230, but I only use it to rip tracks that I can't rip in my other drives as I like to have over-reading into the read in/out. So virtually every track I have submitted for a 230 is from a track that can't be ripped accurately on another drive and >50+% still can't be ripped with the 230, so I am bringing the numbers down.

Those who rip with 2 drives (or more) are not included in these results, so it is not possible to bring the results down, unless you installed a specific 2nd PC for that one drive + bad discs.

doesn't that exclude a ton of results?

I don't see why this is relevant, nor why you would want to exclude results from people with 2 or more drives.

Having more drives is a good thing, not a bad thing.

it is impossible to prevent that, as already mentioned you simply rip it in a different computer.

the average household has what, 3 or 4 computers now a days?

I don't see how ripping the same disk in a different computer is any different than ripping with the same 2 drives in one computer.

You can't prevent it from happening, why exclude it? It can't hurt, every data point helps.

Some people use two drives, one for the first rip and one to take care of damaged discs if the first rip fails. In my case the second one, PX-230A, is only fed the bad discs, so the statistics would be way worse.
It's much less likely to see this scenario involving multiple computers and even then, it's not detectable. So it perfectly makes sense to exclude those using multiple drives, because you don't know on what the decision which drive to use for a specific rip is based.

sure, it is also just as likely that people with multiple drives are ripping multiple disks simultaniously too.

it should be equally worse for any other drive in the machine. Heck it should be even better for the drives that can rip damaged disks vs those that can't.

we will have to agree to disagree here

makes zero sense to me, because the decision to use which drive should be irrelevant.

Every valid rip, from every valid drive, should count. Regardless, and especially, if there are multiple drives in a particular system.

same disk, ripped in one system with 3 different drives;
drive a rips disk 80% accurately
drive b rips disk 90% accurately
drive c rips disk 99% accurately

That is the data that I want to see included.

But thats just my opinion.

I am the same, any tough discs get fed to the 230a, for normal ripping I use a run of the mill laptop drive (for convenience). Anyhow it is all academic, AccurateRip does not store the drive make with individual results, only an overview of which drives are configured, so we could not assign rips to a certain drive even if I wanted to (unless there is only 1 drive configured).

Once again the Plextor 230A reigns supreme.

Does anyone have any idea where I can buy a PX 230A? I'm in the UK, I've searched on Ebay UK and Amazon UK, and all searches have turned up zero results. Likewise with the second-placed Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J.

I'm in the UK also, and have looked many times to buy a PX-230A with no luck.  I did eventually pick up a Plextor Premium for £15 off ebay (listing was mis-spelt!), but these aren't particularly high up the list.  More recently, I went down this list to see what's the best ripping drive I could find and managed to find 2 Plextor PX-130A drives for £15!

Although I would still love a PX 230A, I remind myself that these are just statistics and any drive in the top 20 will likely be better than whatever random drive is in your PC (mine happened to be in bottom 10 list!). I'd just keep checking ebay and a decent drive will turn up eventually.
