This is so cool that it actually got me to go ahead and register
glad you like it

small upgrade: The 'Lib'-Button (on the example skin) now opens te album list. "Foobar2000/Always on top" also works now and I made some configuration-changes ...

On a lower level, I think you should switch from the current (rather clumsy) "show some bitmap here, add an event handler there" scheme to something more sprite/widget oriented. The ability to disable (a group of) sprites is needed for more dynamic skins (with popup menus/button panels and such).
Hmm, I had to look up both sprite and widget but I think I know what you mean .. (Well, more or less .. )
I think I'll take a look at a really, really complex skin and add the functionality needed to make it (hmm .. why do I think, i already had this idea some time ago...?)

In the end, most users are not programmers and would probably like to have a visual editor to create or customize skins.
okay, this will take some time to figure out how to implement it ..

I'm not talking about the fairy-like sprites.  On the other hand, I didn't want to clutter my post to much by adding window and control as well. I hope it's clearer now.

The buttons on the playlist window in a Winamp skin would be a good, yet small example.

Take your time. You were asking for ideas, and I gave you some. It's up to you what you do with them.

Hi, first off: thank you for making foobar significantly less ugly (I love the simplicity/size/feel of the classic Winamp skin, but foobar's far too powerful to not use).

I have foo_ui_columns, but I still can't get the visualization to work.
Console on load:

INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : ui extension 'Spectrum analyser' not found
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : no extensions available!
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : ui extension 'playlist switcher' not found
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : no extensions available!

The vis works fine in the other two UIs, but I get this error in foo_ui_gfx

I'm pretty new to foobar and maybe I'm doing something ridiculously stupid here, but I can't figure it out.

Good work and thanks again.

first of all, sorry for not responding so long, but i had close to no free time in the last few weeks .. just started visual studio again to see what to do next .. but i hope, the next version is not that far away ..

the only reason for this error, i can think of, if you have the foo_ui_columns.dll is that you have a version, which is too old (or new ?) .. do you have version 0.1.2 ?

Well it crashed foobar when picking it to be the ui in foobar for the very first time.

Only the very first time. After that its working fine.

really made the switch from winamp much easier

a few things i hope to see sometime in the future... the vis showing up when in the windowshade mode and it's probably been requested many times but functioning buttons in the playlist window would be cool...
- sig removed, no code allowed

Just wondering if it is possible to make something like MMD3 (for winamp) has that you have a windowshade mode and a normal mode and you can switch between them ? atm in the default skin i can see that it's possibly for only the playlist.

Whindowshade:
This will be my first skin so it will take a lot of time and it won't be bugless...

the lua scripting is a great feature, but the default skin looks not very nice and have quite a few usabilty issues.

I'm just wondering if development for this is still going.

Hi,

I downloaded gfx window (foo_ui_gfx) but got some problems:

First I get an error because foobar can't find "msvcr71d.dll". It's not in the zip file. Where can I download "msvcr71d.dll"?

Also, I get a second error:
Quote
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : ui extension 'Spectrum analyser' not found
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : no extensions available!
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : ui extension 'playlist switcher' not found
INFO (foo_ui_gfx) : no extensions available!
INFO (CORE) : startup time: 2907 ms
ERROR (CORE) : Failed to load DLL: foo_ui_gfx_debug.dll, reason: Unable to load DLL.

What does this mean? What must I do to install the plugin which allows me to install skins?

Thanks a lot for this plugin.  I like the windowshade mode and the fact that the player and playlist window are seperate, so I can drag and drop folders on the player to play or playlist to enqueue.  I don't use a media library for my music, just a big folder of artist - album folders.  I'm looking forward to seeing this ported to 0.9 (I've added it to the list).

Here are a few things I'd like to see implemented if you have the time:

* Ability to drag and drop links from web browsers onto foobar.
* Make windowshaded playlist window same width as resized normal view playlist window.
* Ability to format info string in windowshaded playlist window.

And a shoutcast bug:

* In order to update the current song playing title in windowshade mode, you have toggle out and in of windowshade mode.

Hello everybody,

I need an advice:

I put the plugin in the components folder, msvcr71.dllin system32 folder, but at startup i got an error:

"Failed to load DLL: foo_ui_gfx_debug.dll
Reason: This component is missing a required dependency, or was made for different version of foobar2000."

I am using version 0.9.

Any ideas?

It doesn't work with 0.9, you will have to wait till it gets recomplied with the new SDK before it will work.

I think that the error message literally tells you what is wrong: this plugin was made for different version of foobar2000 - 0.8.3, and you are trying to run it under 0.9.

Is there any foo_ui_gfx plugin for version of foobar 0.9?
Thanx!

I emailed the developer through the forum in late March.  I hesitate to do it again and "nag".

Perhaps someone else would like to PM him.

I'm a foobar fan who converted his girlfriend over to it, since we use a lot of asian unicode tags and her winamp wasn't satisfactory.  My initial reason for switching was that my library was too slow to search, open, and manage in anything else.  She finds that she has to switch between Foobar and Winamp because of the lack of a skin she likes, and uses .9x Foobar, so it would be very awesome if a .9x compatible version of this plugin were to come out.  The way she switches between skinned winamp 2 and Foobar demonstrates how she requires the power of columns UI for managing her library and the mass tagger for her tags, while also wanting a cute and small UI with winamp 2 skins, so how can this be accomplished?  One solution I have seen is what Windows Media Player 7+ does, with its "Anchor window" and Full/Skin button.  Windows Media Player can take the form of a small skin, or can be switched to a "full" library mode, rather quickly, thanks to the use of a button that allows seamless switching.  My fear is that this plugin will bring winamp 2 skins to foobar (a very needed perhaps) but will make it cumbersome to cleanly switch between the more complex columns_ui interface that I use and the prettier new skin support.  She switches many times a day and runs foobar and winamp 2 at the same time for this purpose, so I'm sure there are a lot of people who would like to be able to swap between skinned and pure columns ui modes, somewhat rapidly, as a button for such might afford.  I'm not even sure how possible this would be, but maybe foosion and kdx will one day be at a point where such a thing is possible and deemed useful, if it isn't today?  Well, that's my suggestion.  Thanks for the much needed development you are providing, kdx.
__________
Edit:
Besides the anchor window or "full/skin" button idea, for fast switching to collumns ui or another interface and back, I was testing foo_ui_gfx and realized a lot of my girlfriends skins make use of skinning the equalizer.  I'm doubtful that can be implimented, since equalizer is an entirely different plugin, but who knows, heh.  So if there's any way to impliment the EQ, or at least bring up another panel/window that shows the EQ part of a skin, that would help the emulation of winamp skins, to her at least.  Just one more idea

I'll PM him just in case he didn't get the form email and ask for at least a port of the plugin's current functionality.

I don't think anybody is going to work on this plugin anymore. I just recently discovered a plugin called foo_title and it does what I wanted. So you might have a look at it.

I checked out foo_title a little while ago, and at the time, IIRC, it didn't support drag and drop to play, and there isn't a playlist.

In related news, I got a PM back from kdx and he said he's working on a port
